Visual Journaling & Reflection
Visual note taking is a style of note taking that includes using a combination of images and text to make meaning out of information. Studies show that using visual note taking increases memory of content. Children draw before they write, it’s how they make sense of the world. Using images to process content and develop understanding is second nature to us as people.
The reflection process includes asking questions like “what?”, “so what?”, and “what now?”. They encourage students to add details, analyze, discuss, draw conclusions, and apply information. They encourage higher thinking skills that are necessary for deep learning.
